The growing sexuality of claymation penguins

Josh, in a very disgusted voice, when I woke up this morning: "How old is this Pingu supposed to BE anyways?"

Me: "What? I don't know, he has a little brother so he has to be at least 2 or 3."

Josh: "Well Zeke and I were watching Pingu and he got KISSED by some girl penguin!"

Me: "Like on the cheek? I don't think that's a big deal."

Josh: "No, it was full beak on beak action, man. You know when he talks and his mouth looks like a trumpet? It was like 2 trumpets."

So apparently my son's favorite show has been deemed "sexual" because on the Valentines episode (which is mostly Pingu trying to make a valentine and accidentally gluing things to his hand) he gets kissed by his card's recipient, full beak on beak.

And yes, despite the fact that our original plan was not not let Zeke watch any TV until he turned 2, we gave in shortly after he turned 1 and now he watches some sort of short cartoon at least twice a week. His favorites so far are Veggie Tales Silly Songs and Pingu. Both are about 5-7 minutes which is about his attention span. I just cant resist the "I'm trying to make dinner and you wont leave me alone" convenience of it, or the even more guilt inducing "What if I play silly songs on youtube on half the computer screen and type on the other half? Then can I stay on the labtop a little longer?"

The growling list of shows I've already decided will melt his brain and therefor cut Zeke off from? Sponge Bob (I dont think he needs to be TAUGHT potty humor), and Caillou (that little boy needs to freaking GROW UP. He's supposed to be 4? He acts worse than Z at times!). Luckily Josh wasnt so disgusted by Pingu that he felt the need to add him to the list.

Zeke watching the dreaded Wiggles while I try to make dinner (talk about brain meltage...they might soon be added to the list):

I am guilty...I let my 2.5 y/o watch Spongebob. He also loves Dora, Diego, Backyardigans, & recently he started liking iCarly & Drake & Josh. I guess because my 9 y/o daughter loves watching it. Nowadays, damn near all shows have something inappropriate. What is up with that?!

We definitely have a list of things our kiddos can and can not watch. But CVSer is right, there is something crud on almost everything on TV.
We have begun to use those 'not so great moments' in TV watching as a time to explain what God has called us to and why those things are inappropriate. Of course this is aimed at a 2 and 4 year old level but it is good practice for me 'cause I'll need to do more and more of it as they get older.
In order to save some more money we just turned off our cable. It has been nice doing things with the kiddos instead of watching tv. But in those 'I need to take a shower moments' we turn on a family friendly video

Spongebob is on my bad list too... Harry likes Caillou, but he drives me nuts, he has bigger kid themes (like monsters in the dark) but acts like a 2 year old about them. I like Sid the Science Kid and we LOVE Dora! We also just started watching Roary the Racing Car. Good car fun for little ones with good lessons mixed in. :)

Peanut doesn't usually pay attention to the TV unless Jack's Big Music Show or YGG are on but she's seen some episodes of House. She's only 4 months old but I think she kinda likes the TV already. Oops.

we downloaded seasame street and lots of disney cartoon classics and when he starts watching TV (possibly at 2) we will give him the DVDs rather than these ugly cartoons showing lately!

You could try Wonder Pets. They are pretty cute and I've never seen anything risque on there. Each episode has two like 10 minute or so segments.

Aidan isn't really interested in TV. Maybe if a neat song is playign during a commercial. THat's about it. I have tried, countless times, to turn on Bob the Builder while I am trying to get things done but he's not interested. I've also tried the Backyardigans. No luck!

I also am a big fan of veggie tales!

I think that's funny. Not bad funny. Just chuckling, that the list is going to be massive when he gets older ;) My list for Vic. is fairly large (including music and movies). Sponge Bob is down right annoying despite the brain melting. I LOATH that little laugh of his. It's all about finding a good balance!

I've never seen any of the shows you mentioned, but my son likes Diego and WonderPets. I haven't seen anything questionable in those shows. Veggie tales is great too.

I tried and tried to get the boys into Veggie Tales but they wouldn't have it. Wiggles were a huge hit in our house and still are. I tell myself it's alright because it gets them on their feet and dancing. The boys know for my dislike of Spongebob. Enough that Joshua will look at me and say, "Mommy close your eyes, you don't want to see this 'mmercial."
